Another busy cake day

Phew, what a day it has been! By 12.30 today I had decorated a teapot cake, a 2 tier 40th cake, iced cuppies for a bachelorette party and cuppies for a 16th Golf themed party and then it was off to school to fetch the boys! I must admit that I am now totally demotivated to do any work but I know my pc is calling my name! I have inserted pics  of the cakes from today, except the golf cuppies - I clearly had the shakes when I took the pic so it is a bit blurry and definitely not good enough to post. I took "progress" photies of the teapot cake but when it got to the 40th cake I clean forgot about the camera, probably because I was watching the clock!! Ok all, have a super weekend, I will be working but we have promised to take the boys for a walk in the forest and pancakes at a really gorgeous pancake shop in Muizenberg. x.

Typo gremlin

Me dear friend Nicky from Unique Giftz (check out her link under Links I'm Loving) sent me a "good morning" mail and let me know that I had the typo gremling last night when I was doing my latest post. Clearly I was overtired, overworked and underpaid as I read that insert three times and missed the mistakes!! Maybe I should have  competition going to "spot the typo" or maybe I should not be blogging close to midnight.

Today is another busy one with cakes to bake, a website to design, a mailer banner to conjure up, quotes to send out, washing to do and that's only this morning!!

Roses are Red...

Normally the end of my week is when I am inundated with cake orders but this week it staretd with a cake. I was asked to make a carrot cake for a morning tea for a lady named Elizabeth. I had very specific intsructions - there had to be red roses on top dusted in gold and red ribbons running to the centre of the cake. The roses are made out of fondant and I always have such fun making them.

Crazy cake Friday

Shaun started high school on Wednesday and Ryan was still home and bored mindless without his brother. Thank heavens he went back to school today and we can start settling into a routine again.

As always, Friday was a little crazy with cake orders. I had an order for two ballet themed cakes for twin girls on Friday, a cake for a "gentleman" who goes by the name of Miss Rose (I suppose I need say no more!) and this cake had to be bright pink and black and have a black stiletto on the top and last but not least I had babyshower cuppies.

The ballet shoes were quite a challenge to make as I did not have a shoe former so I had to prop the toe piece up with cottonwool and attaching the front of the shoe to the sole was a minor nightmare but it all worked out in the end. I made Mexican paste which is far more elastic than fondant which was the best choice.

This week I need to focus on getting some quotes out and tackling my growing list of graphic design jobs that were neglected last week. So that said, let me get cracking on that "to do" list!!

Busy day

What a day it has been so far. I decided to cut my hair short after having long hair for 11 years and I think this will take a bit of getting used to. When I got back home from the hairdresser I received a phone call from a friend to ask why my eldest, Shaun, is not on the bus for the new pupil's camp for the new high school he is starting at this year! Obviously the e-mail outlining the camp went astray when my husbands pc decided to crash. SO, in a matter of 10 minutes we had a bag packed and he was in the car (with three muffins and a bottle of juice) with dad to try and catch up with the bus on the way to Hermanus. Phew. After they left I put the finishing touches on the cake order for today - a sports cake for a 10 year old boy. I made my "usual" dark fudgy chocolate cake which is so moreish you keep coming back for more. Now, let's hope the rest of the day is relatively uneventful and I can get the advert done for a mag that needs to go into repro by this afternoon.

Hot under the collar!

The past three days in Cape Town have been blisteringly hot with the average daily temperature being 40 degrees. To say that we have been wilting is an understatement. I had to bake this morning for a sports cake for tomorrow and putting the oven on in this scorching heat was something I was not looking forward to. I made the cricket bat and wickets yesterday and they are bone dry already thanks to the heat. I have been trying to find the time to work on my Templates and Recipes section of this blog but there are just not enough hours in the day. I suppose that when Shaun goes back to school on the 12th and Ryan on the 17th my life will slip back into routine and I will be able to get so much more done in a morning. But for now, I am just enjoying the cool sea breeze that is wafting into the house while I work. Speaking of which, I have a lot more to do before pumpkin hour which is fast approaching, so it's goodnight from me.

Almost there...

Phew, it's been a couple of days now and I am finally getting the hang of this blogging "thing". I must confess that I have tried another application but came straight back to Blogger - it is so much more user friendly!! Now all I have to do is find the time to add the content to my blog! The boys have one week of holidays left and I am determined to get them out the house if only the weather would play along. The orders are starting to trickle in for cakes already and by the 10th of January most people will be back to "normal" and I am just waiting for the deluge of e-mails. I have a few new business ideas up my sleeve and I need to start working on those, but once again it is all about "balance" - balancing the housework, the children, my graphic design work and my cake orders. So, watch this space...there are great things to come!
